WHY IS A DAM BREACH ANALYSIS NECESSARY?

A Dam Breach Analysis is needed to delineate the area potentially impacted by inundation should a dam fail, and can be used to aid dam classification for any proposed stormwater management facilities.

WHEN DO I NEED A DAM BREACH ANALYSIS?

A Dam Breach Analysis is required for

• any proposed pond construction that could potentially affect the downstream properties.



• where an existing pond upstream of any proposed development, which when breached, may affect the development downstream.



• Establishing a dam hazard class for any proposed stormwater management structures as part of the development.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION APPROVAL PROCESS?

The applicant submits a completed Floodplain Permit Application with supporting technical information and fee. See second page of application for required submittal information, available on eDocuments at Application for Floodplain Study/Permit .

HOW IS THE DAM BREACH ANALYSIS REVIEW COORDINATED WITH MY SEDIMENT CONTROL PERMIT APPLICATION APPROVAL?

Upon approval of the Dam Breach Analysis, the reviewer will inform the sediment control plan reviewer that the analysis has been approved and the "Dam Classification" is appropriate for the proposed construction.

WHAT WILL THE DAM BREACH ANALYSIS REVIEW COST?

Full Dam Breach Analysis review fee is $2288.00

Simplified Dam Breach Analysis review fee is $803.00

The above fees include a 10% automation enhancement fee. Filing fees and permit fees are based on fees in effect on the date the application was filed. All other fees are based on fees in effect at the time the service is requested (revision fee, extension fee, etc.).

All fees are non refundable and are not transferable.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY APPROVAL?

A Dam Breach Analysis takes approximately six to eight weeks for review and approval. Actual processing time may vary according to workload and/or complexity of the project.
